Skulpt has always been the pioneer of fitness initiatives, which sets them apart from other gyms in the city. This time too, they came up with a different concept true to their belief to Get Fit. Specially organized for the members of Skulpt, this group of 15 was led by popular model and trekker, from Kolkata – Madhabilata Mitra. Trek to Sandakphu is another milestone that Skulpt has crossed after training members who have participated in treks to Everest Base Camp and Antarctica. Divya Himatsingka, Director of Skulpt, said, “This is the first time any gym in Kolkata is attempting such a trek. We have had experience of training our members, who have attempted Everest Base Camp and Antarctica. Based on that, we came up with this concept of Trek to Sandakphu.”

Sandakphu is the highest peak in the state of Ilam, Mechi, Nepal and West Bengal, India, which makes it a promising trek experience. Keeping that in mind, Skulpt scheduled a month-long training prior to departing for Sandakphu. The training scheduled for 6 days a week, was a combination of aerobic fitness and strength building exercises. Fitness sessions were scheduled during the trek, to aid the participants to complete the trek successfully. The journey was even more memorable. Right from the moment the group boarded the train from Sealdah to New Jalpaiguri, there was a sense of excitement, apprehension and wonder. The first day they halted at Chitrey via Siliguri and Maneybhanjan, and spent the night at a quaint trekker’s hut with bonfire to beat the bitter cold. On Day 2, after a 2-hour ascent, they reached the little village of Meghma, which was the first Indo-Nepal border check post on the route. After completing all the formalities at the border, the team headed to their destination – Tumling, Nepal and stopped near the entrance of Singalila National Park. On Day 3, the members set out for Kalapokhri via Jaubari and Gairibus. They completed the trek and spent the night at a lodge in the middle of Singalila National Park. Sandakphu was the final leg of the trek via BK Bhanjan and was the most difficult. To reach the point of 11,942 feet, the group meandered in and out of Nepal to receive the most beautiful surprise that wasn’t expected at this time of the year - Snowfall. A white morning welcomed them and the snow-covered landscape was a sight not to be missed. Sandakphu 2017 was a memorable experience for all those who went on it and lived a life less ordinary.
