Rangkarmee, the theater group birthed by Usha Ganguly 41 years ago, presented a series of plays to mark the occasion, the first of them being a well-knit-together medley of seven Tagore stories in a presentation titled Saptaparnee. The seven directors were all women, as were the seven actors, each of them elocuting, singing and even bringing in rhythms of dance with equal felicity to bring special interpretations of well known Tagore tales. Like Shasti, Jibito Mrito, Chitrangada, Sadharon Meye, Chaturanga, Raktakarabi, Chaar Adhyay.

The directors were Sohag Sen, Sima Mukhopadhyay,  Suranjana Dasgupta, Tulika Das, Ishita Mukhopadhyay, Adrija Dasgupta and Abanti Chakraborty.  The actors ranged from young thespians to the graying. They were Maya Ghosh, Senjuti Mukherjee, Sanchayita Bhattacharya, Anubha Fatehpuria, Karuna Thakur, Mrinmoyee Biswas and Kathakali.

This is perhaps the first time in India that this multi-directorial-actor venture has been attempted. Rangkarmee, pioneers in the theater movement have now introduced Studio Theater — appropriately named Binodini Keya Mancha where small audiences and much interactivity can take place.
