Winter in Kolkata is something that can be easily termed as Utopia. I can give you many reasons for it, if you ask me. One of the major reasons is definitely the amazing food delights you get in Kolkata during the winter. Palm jaggery or the darling nolen gur/notun gur steps into our lives during the winter and most of the women (and sometimes men) get busy in making a special kind of sweetmeat known by the name ‘Pithe’. These delights are mainly made from rice flour, grated coconut, milk and the amazing flavor of the nolen gur. Once you take a bite of this, you will never forget the taste and the happiness involved with it.

The month of January marked the most delicious of all the festivals, the Pithe Puli Festival held at the Rajdanga Ground. This Utsav is mainly a celebration of the age-old tradition of sweetmeats which is unfortunately fading away because of the fast and busy lives on Kolkatans. Various avtars of this heavenly sweetmeats make an appearance at this Utsav and Gokul Pithe, Dudh Puli, Patisapta, Siddhyo Puli and Notun Gurer Payesh are just some of the names from the lot.  There was also another fest which was held just opposite to the South City Mall in Taltala and both these events were a huge hit as food aficionados from across the city came down to have a taste of their age-old and favorite delicacies.
