Kolkata recently became a part of the ever growing footprints of Pinkathon, India’s Biggest Women’s Run. On the occasion of Women’s Day, Kolkata witnessed the celebration of the ‘Walking Warriors-The Women of Today’ women, who are more than just a pretty face or a perfect body. The event celebrated the women, who have crossed major hurdles in their lives and have become an inspiration to others.

With a team that comprises mostly of women, JW Marriott’s Ms. Ranju Alek was not just a mere host to the event but firmly believes in women’s empowerment and celebrates the power of women. Mr. Milind Soman, the founder of Pinkathon is known for his contribution in spreading awareness about women’s fitness, was also a part of this event which was emceed by Ms. Nilanjana Chakraborty. Dr. Shashi Panja, Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare and Social Welfare was the chief guest.

The event unveiled inspirational excerpts from the life of Alokananda Roy, Anjali Saraogi, Hena Nafis, Ruchika Gupta, Agnimitra Paul and Shradha Agarwal. The most inspiring presentation was made by Ms. Ranju Alek who had battled with tumors for over two and a half years and she how she never, ever, gave up. Others too shared their personal experiences with how women battle body image issues these days in their never-ending quest to achieve an improbable ‘size zero’. Milind Soman motivated all the women to go out and celebrate themselves, as few of them were ever celebrated anywhere. He implored them to participate in the Pinkathon and to do something solely for themselves!
