Kolkata witnessed the power of Pink on 26th March 2017, as India’s biggest Women’s Run stepped in the City of Joy. With a Pink Carnival on 25th March 2017, held at Forum, Kolkata got into the spirit of Pinkathon.

Even when it was dark outside, the Calcutta Rangers Club on the Maidan saw women from every age group assembling in the ground in thousands. The women of Kolkata were all set to run, run to empower themselves and to promise themselves a better and healthier life. Most women have a habit of neglecting their own health whilst still taking care of their families. The Pinkathon movement changed their perspective on life and forged a new path for women who were now ready to run for their own health and power.

After a fun and warming Zumba session with Sameer Sachdeva and an inspiring speech by the founder Mr. Milind Soman, the wonder women were all set to run their first Pinkathon. The categories were chiefly 3km, 5km and 10 km, with and without time chips. There were volunteers and family cheering for the women, which was indeed a wonderful sight to behold. There were mothers running with their newborns, which was very inspiring for every one present there. This year around 3.5k Pink sisters ran for this wonderful cause leaving behind whatever weaknesses they had and whatever that had kept them away from flying high. Every finisher went home with a certificate and Tsunamika − a living symbol of the nature of the Tsunami which had changed the lives of women from the coastal areas and despite this, they had continued, not given up hope and their zest for life.

Pinkathon gifted Kolkata’s women, new hope, new dreams, and new promises − the ‘Pink Promise’.
