Winter in the city of Joy is synonymous to many festivals and fairs that dot every nook and corner of this city. But the biggest and the grandest of them all is the Antarjatik Kolkata Boi Mela or the International Kolkata Book Fair. This year marks the 41st year of the largest non- trade book fair in the world!

The inauguration took place on 25th January, 2017 in presence of the CM of West Bengal, Smt. Mamata Banerjee. The focal theme for this year is Costa Rica, with stalls from UK, USA, France, China, Japan, Vietnam, 11 Latin American countries and Bangladesh. Apart from the International stalls, many Indian states such as Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Punjab, Telengana, Kerala and Delhi, will also add to the rich collection of the Book Fair. The International Book Fair will also host Literary Meets with eminent speakers.

This book fair is a proof enough of the incessant love for art and literature of the city dwellers. The huge crowd that are mainly seen in the theme stall, and stalls of Rupa, Oxford, Ananda and Dey’s are something that you will hardly get to see in any other Book fairs in the country. The more than 200 stalls of Little Magazine nurture the growth of young poets and writers. Various musical programs are also included in the 12-day event.

However an issue which could have posed a huge challenge to the IKBF this Year was the monetary issues, but rest assured paytm, SBI buddy, POS machines, a SBI branch and many money vans will be present there to satiate your ‘booklust’.

A must visit fair for any book lover in the city.
