The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) organized a day-long Seminar on ‘Indo-US Promotion of Travel and Tourism’ at the JW Marriott Kolkata on 5 May.  Window on Travel was the On-line Media Partner and DigitalBrandz the Social-Media Partner for the event.

Representatives from West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and Assam were all present to show-case the increase in potential of travel and tourism within their own states. The Guest of Honor was Mr. Patrick Santillo, Minister, Counselor, US Embassy New Delhi, and Chief Guests included Shree Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister of Tourism, Odisha and Ms. Rupa Ganguly, Member of Parliament (BJP) and Actress. Special Guests comprised of Mr. Rahul Sharma, IAS Secretary Ministry of Tourism, Jharkhand and Mr. Keshav R Prasad, Special Secretary and Director cum MD Ministry of Tourism, Bihar.

Following opening remarks by the above and a vote of thanks by Mr. Anil Punjabi, Chairman, Eastern Region, TAFI, a number of interesting topics were covered in the Technical Sessions. These included Outbound Tourism to the US which was enhanced by some terrific visuals and short films shown by Ms. Sheema Bohra, Country Head BrandUSA and representatives of Destination USA and MICE.

Participants got to listen to informative discussions on ‘US Visa Application Procedures’ as well as the ‘Potential for Investment in Travel, Tourism & Hospitality Sectors’ and more importantly ‘Using US Management for Development of the Hospitality Sector – Vision for Eastern India’.

Among the penultimate session Tehnaz Dastoor spoke about ‘Promoting the Use of Digital Technology for Travel & Tourism’ showcasing Bengal through a superb short film featuring Shahrukh Khan and enhancing discussions through visuals from her beautifully-crafted website, www.wotweb.com.

All speakers were graciously felicitated by the IACC.
