Kolkata with its heritage buildings, inherent culture and love for art and literature, holds a special place in almost every art lover’s heart. The Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival is one such festival which brings together all of these in one picture with a century old bookstore, Oxford as the nucleus.

The 16-18th January, 2017, marked the first major literary meet in India, held at the campuses of iLEAD and Presidency University, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Royal Calcutta Turf Club, Tollygunj Club, St John’s Church, Daga Nikunj and Harrington Street Art’s Centre. Devdutt Pattanaik, Amit Chaudhuri, Shashi Tharoor, Urvashi Butalia, Kunal Basu, Shobha De, Nabaneeta Dev Sen, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak and Rachel Dwyer were some of the eminent persons who were a part of this Literary Meet, whose prime theme centered on ‘Towards Inclusiveness’

The event was dedicated to the memory of Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan and eminent writer and social activist Maheswata Devi. The 3 day affair had 3 evenings dedicated to music and a film screening on Maheswata Devi and a dramatized reading of ‘The Why Why  Girl’

The key highlights of the event also included discussions on issues like India’s North East, Protection of Child Rights and voices of women. A 2-day Oxford Junior Literary Festival in collaboration with UNICEF was also a part of the event. Tiny Stories, a global campaign by UNICEF@70 was introduced with Shashi Tharoor on a theme of ‘A Better World for Every Child’ in the Literary Festival.
