March 2020 changed a lot of things not just in India but across the world. With months of lockdown, the economy went downhill affecting millions in India. But definitely, students seemed to be among the worst affected during this pandemic. With schools shutting down for an uncertain period of time, education has taken a backseat and has many parents questioning their children’s futures.

Today, 250 students of St John’s K.G. School at Amtala are facing a great deal of uncertainty about their future. Since the last one and a half years, the students are hardly in touch with their school since online classes are impossible for many due to their family’s financial constraints. What is worse was the effects of Cyclone Amphan which caused catastrophic damage to the school destroying a number of classrooms totally. Due to the lack of physical infrastructure, as well as school supplies such as desks and chairs, and teaching staff, the school cannot be reopened, hence making it even more difficult for the students to get back to their education. However in order to ensure a brighter future for the children of this school, YehMera India, an NGO based in Kolkata in collaboration with the Techno India Group organized a virtual run to raise fund to rebuild this school and bring the light of hope and future to these children.

This interesting event where people participated in a virtual run is taking place from 15th of August through the end of October 2021 as a gesture to celebrate the nation’s 75th Independence Day and thus contributing to the future education for these children.
