The Calcutta School of Music is a favorite place for all musicians. As you are close by you will see the bubbly young performers lost in their world of music. Offering a wide range of musical instruments to learn the school is the best the city has to offer. The teachers and the students are woven together in their musical notes and one can hear and see them during the performances held from time to time.  It is probably the only school in the country which has a wide ranging canvas of musical disciplines covering all western music disciplines, dance, speech training, elocution, and drama. The freedom to learn and express, guided by experienced teachers makes the place very special.

The main objective of the school has been to nurture students and support music, dance and drama. The objective has been met since the day it began. The students also get the scope to study abroad through endowments and scholarships. Encouragement in all forms is seen here. Some of the very bright students from the school have travelled and performed globally. The teachers too have gained from scholarship programs such as the “Charles Wallace India Trust which has helped them to be trained in the UK for teaching the Kodaly method to very young children.

The students take pride in performing on stage and are outstanding. The school provides instruction in most forms of European, Indian and Oriental musical instruments and the development and theory related to each of them. The Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, which is the world’s largest leading authority on musical assessment in Europe, actively supports and encourages music learning for all. The informal concerts given by the students exposes them to performing in public. The Annual Concert held each year is the arena where the students compete for prizes. To add to the learning, master classes are held by special national as well as international guests. The School has lived up to the dreams of its founder Dr. Phillipe Sandre way back in 1915.
