If you are a fan of Sushi and trendy Japanese cuisine, then do visit Fuji in Southern Avenue.  The food is authentic enough and fits into the current craze over Japanese cuisine in Kolkata.  This is probably the only place serving authentic Japanese cuisine exclusively.

The decor & aesthetics of the place offers a traditional Japanese Eatery vibe with the staff wearing Kimonos, small Japanese artefacts on the tables and even has 2 traditional Japanese low seating dining areas (Zashiki).

Our experience started with the gyoza soup which was an excellent broth with chicken dumplings and green onions.  We enjoyed the Tempura Moriawase which was a crisp assortment of Prawn, squid and assorted vegetables. The texture of the tempura was amazingly light and crunchy and perfectly fried. The sushi experience consisted of the Mumbai Maki (California roll), Goa Maki (spicy salmon rolls) both priced at 4 pieces at 499.  The menu had an extensive Nigiri and Maki range.

Shrimp Tempura

I do recommend the pan sautéed whole wheat Yaki Udon with chicken and assorted vegetables which was served with a well-balanced Japanese sauce (priced at 499). The Teriyaki salmon was delicious with the sweet teriyaki sauce perfectly blended with a topping of roasted sesame seeds.

The home-made Wasabi ice cream was a great ending to an authentic, exquisite Japanese experience.  For a full dining experience, the cost for two would be close to Rs1600.  Loved this place and looking forward to visiting again!
