To usher in the biggest festival of Bengal, Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport unveiled a 6 feet tall idol of goddess Durga made of chocolate in Mahishasurmardini avatar today. This is also a humble ode from the culinary team at Holiday Inn Kolkata to the exceptionally skilled artisans who practice the marvelous artisanship of idol making in Kumartuli, Kolkata.

The idol has been carved out of approx. 600 kilograms of chocolate by expert pastry Chef Sunil. It took a skilled set of three people under the guidance of the pastry chef at Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport to complete the idol within period of seven days working eight hours a day. The idol will be on display until 29 September 2017.

“Autumn is the season of festivals and Durga Puja is possibly the grandest of all. In addition, Bengalis love to feast on these four days of frolic. This year, at Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport, we shaped the goddess with another favorite item of Bengalis i.e. Chocolate. Our motto is not only to celebrate the forever bond between Bengalis with Chocolate and Durga Puja but we also wanted to convey our humble ode to the skilled artisans and the marvelous craftsmanship of idol making prevalent in Kumartuli, Kolkata.,” said Mr Kenneth Scott, General Manager, and Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport.

So, usher in the festivity with this unique work of art, a 6 feet tall Chocolate Durga fondly referred by us as Chocolate Rupena.
