Visiting Goa during the Monsoons is really special and different and our visit last month was a testament to this.

We enjoyed long walks on a fairly deserted beach in the evenings. Due to the Pandemic there were no international tourists around and even local tourists were scant; so walking on the beach and enjoying the sunsets was a pleasure without being constantly accosted by vendors, selfie takers and massage women. The red flags were up indicating that swimming in the sea is forbidden and only a few shacks (which Goa is famous for) were open for business. Although this was the monsoon season, the rains for the most part were in 5 minute bursts and then the weather would clear up again.

Luckily our villa was located centrally in the North, and the beach was a 5 minute walk as were a number of fairly decent restaurants.

You could take an open-air jeep or car and tour the place or just walk along the narrow lanes and admire the beautiful Portuguese-styled bungalows and the numerous churches.

Evenings were spent at local restaurants or with friends who popped in for drinks and a meal and our cook whipped up numerous local dishes like pork vindaloo, chicken kafreal, meat Xacuti, masala fish and a mean prawn curry!
