History was made on April 20th at The Myx Official in Kolkata which hosted, for the first time ever, an international football league esports tournament in India – the finals of the Bundesliga Gaming Championship. Regional finalists from Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai came to compete against the best which Kolkata had to offer.
During the day loads of teenagers competed to enter the Kolkata finals and The Myx was buzzing with energy. Each player was excited to be there and get a chance to win the tournament. Play stations were set up on the top floor and after several rounds of matches the regional finalists prepared themselves mentally for the main event – the semi-finals which was streamed live exclusively on Hotstar with former Roadies and celebrity actor Ranvijay as host commentator.
Posing with an authentic replica of Meisterschale-Bundesliga Trophy, Ranvijay said “E-sports are played so much that the Olympic authorities thought of keeping it in the Olympic game. India has a lot of professional gamers who participate and win tournaments. Football is a culture. The way football is treated is like the way one treats their family.”
Once the semi-finals started, a large screen above showed the games to the excited audience who cheered on their favorite player and finally Saransh Jain, wearing Bayern Munich Jersey emerged as the winner. Saransh will have the opportunity to visit Germany and to compete against Wisuwat from Thailand (the S.E. Asian Champ), and to play for the title of the VBL International Series. Also, both players will get a never-before-had experience of touring the iconic Berlin Olympic Stadium and watch a Bundesliga match live in the Red Bull Arena!
